Widodo has been a dedicated Disability Support Worker for the past three years, combining professional expertise with genuine compassion. Originally from Indonesia, he came to Australia seeking a new challenge and was offered work in the sector even before completing his studies in Individual Support.
Since then, Widodo has built his qualifications with a Certificate III in Individual Support, a Certificate IV specialist upgrade, and a Diploma in Community Services. His next goal is to specialise in mental health support.
Widodo believes great support work comes from the heart. Fluent in both Indonesian and English, he works with participants of all ages and values patience, respect, and helping people pursue the activities they enjoy.
“Our participants are really smart people. They just need respect, opportunities to explore their interests, and support to live the life they choose,” he says.
Before joining the disability sector, Widodo spent more than 15 years working with WWF Indonesia and other international organisations, researching endangered wildlife and travelling throughout Indonesia’s forests.
Today, that same curiosity, dedication, and commitment to making a difference are reflected in his work with participants and their families. Widodo’s journey is a reminder that meaningful support starts with empathy, respect, and a passion for lifelong learning.
