Youth Justice & Early Intervention

Support for young people who are at risk of engaging in unlawful activities, aiming to facilitate a positive change in their life direction.

What is the program

Our New Way Forward Program (NWF) supports young people at risk of engaging with youth justice, helping them make positive changes in their lives. The NWF program is based on cognitive behavioural therapy, which focuses on addressing the behaviours of young individuals. It works with them—and, when appropriate, their families—to set goals and create a bright future.

Who this is for

Individuals aged 10 to 17 years:

  • From culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Who reside within the Blacktown Local Government Area or the Penrith and Nepean Regions, and
  • Who are currently engaged with, or are at risk of becoming involved with, the justice system

What we offer

Our case management addresses key criminogenic needs:

  • Family and peer relationships
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Substance abuse
  • Leisure
  • Emotional stability
  • Criminal thinking
  • Residential stability

How it works

  1. Once we receive a referral, we assess the young person’s strengths, needs, risks, and goals
  2. We co-design an individualised case plan with tailored goals, coordinate services, and connect the young person and their family to appropriate supports
  3. We advocate for access to services, ensuring their needs and rights are upheld
  4. We continuously monitor progress, adjust the plan as needed, and respond to changing circumstances
