SydWest Multicultural Services hosted a celebration of #RefugeeWeek: The Future of Settlement in Penrith to reaffirm Penrith City Council’s commitment towards being a refugee welcoming zone.
We also delivered community engagement events in our Mount Druitt and Blacktown offices for clients to share their stories, whilst also hosting activities that allowed them to bond through culture and fashion.
In partnership with SSI, we attended the launch of the Billion Dollar Benefit program in Canberra on World Refugee Day.
Unleashing refugee and migrant talent is good for newcomers, good for business, and good for Australia. It’s a win-win-win.
Australia’s leading refugee advocacy groups and support organisations SSI – Settlement Services International, Settlement Council of Australia, Community Corporate, and Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia – FECCA, recently launched ‘The Billion Dollar Benefit’, a report that outlines a roadmap for unleashing the economic potential of refugees and migrants.
It provides five barrier-breaking solutions recommended by 50 experts representing five sectors. By implementing these solutions by 2025, Australia can:
– Add billions to our economy
– Fill critical skills gaps
– Create sustainable employment pathways for newcomers
SydWest Multicultural Services wholeheartedly endorses the recommendations of this report and we are committed to taking action to enable refugees and migrants to reach their full career potential.
